NFIB

The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) (www.nfib.com) is the nation’s leading small-business advocacy organization.  A non-profit, non-partisan association founded in 1943, NFIB represents the consensus views of its members in Washington and all 50 state capitals.

NFIB’s mission is to promote and protect the right of its members to own, operate, and grow their businesses.  NFIB also provides its members with a wealth of practical information, resources and tools and tips to help them succeed.  And, by pooling member purchasing power, NFIB can give members access to selected products and services at discounted prices.

NFIB’s Foundations

The National Federation of Independent Business’s Young Entrepreneur Foundation, Research Foundation, and Small Business Legal Center are mission critical components of the parent organization.

The Young Entrepreneur Foundation promotes the importance of free enterprise and entrepreneurship to young audiences.  The Research Foundation, which developed this site, provides small business-specific, policy-related information on issues impacting smaller firms and affects public debate by making its findings widely available. The Small Business Legal Center fights for small businesses in the courts and seeks to educate small employers on legal issues.

NFIB’s Members

NFIB’s hundreds of thousands of members are scattered across the country and range from some of the world’s most sophisticated high technology enterprises to single-person shops that operate in traditional ways.  However, the typical NFIB member employs five people and reports median gross sales of about $350,000 annually.  Both figures are close to the national small employer profile.  There are significant exceptions with thousands of members employing more than 100 people and grossing more than $10,000,000. Members can be found in virtually every industry.
